Extending the reach of remote monitoring to areas beyond terrestrial LoRa connectivity
Dublin, Ireland, September 10, 2025 – Today, EchoStar Mobile Limited, an EchoStar company (Nasdaq: SATS), announced that skentel is adding the EM2050 Satellite LoRaWAN module to its RS485 device. The RS485 is used to collect and transmit data from water quality sensors, weather stations, electric power meters, and industrial controllers. This addition will enable skentel customers to place monitoring devices in remote locations where satellite is the only connectivity option.
With over 16 years of experience in designing, manufacturing, and installing turnkey, reliable connectivity solutions, skentel has consistently been an early adopter and developer of innovative solutions. As a remote monitoring provider for organisations that manage assets and sensors across a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, the environment, and leisure, skentel uses IoT technology in conjunction with wireless connectivity to enable sensors wherever they are needed, regardless of the location. These monitoring devices reduce unnecessary travel, optimise resource usage, and advance sustainability goals.
“We help organisations monitor and control their assets and sensors remotely for one clear purpose: to avoid the need to travel to them so they can save time, energy, and natural resources. These solutions also unleash potential for predictive maintenance and fault detection,” said Rob Cartwright, Managing Director at skentel.
EchoStar Mobile provides connectivity modules that add satellite as an option for LoRaWAN devices. The connectivity utilises EchoStar XXI, a geostationary satellite equipped with S-band transponders. EchoStar Mobile is helping to power pan-European LoRa-enabled IoT networks by bridging the satellite and terrestrial LoRa networks. Utilising the S-band spectrum enables real-time, bi-directional connectivity, which is very valuable in agriculture, environmental monitoring, transportation, and other segments that rely on data to protect assets and provide services.
“Here is another service provider demonstrating the importance of satellite connectivity for IoT and other remote monitoring services”, said Telemaco Melia, vice president at EchoStar Mobile. “By adding the EM2050 module to their product, skentel can achieve their vision of providing industrial monitoring anywhere and reducing the need for onsite visits.”
